Pete Guardalabene, Milwaukee Mafia Boss

Giovanni Battista (GB) “Pete” Guardalabene

Pete Guardalabene was the son of the first Milwaukee mob boss, Vito Guardalabene, and then became the boss: 1921–1927

He rose to prominence as a high-ranking employee of the Milwaukee Sanitation Department. Pete extorted money from new immigrants in exchange for their jobs of hauling trash to the city incinerator.

The most notable incident involving Guardalabene was the “Garbage Melee,” a gun and knife battle at the city landfill.

    Monte Carlo Club

The Monte Carlo was a popular prohibition era nightclub known for its extravagant shows and extensive liquor selection. The Monte Carlo was frequently listed among the most flagrant violators of the law banning the sale of intoxicating liquors. On several occasions federal prohibition agents conducted high profile raids on the Monte Carlo failing at every turn to convince Milwaukee authorities to declare the place a public nuisance thereby banning it from operation. With each raid, the influence of the Guardalabene organization grew and the brothers continued to expand their operation through the 20s on into the early 30s.

Oct 15, 1926 – Pete Guardalabene was arrested for Liquor violations  by out of state Prohibition Agents

Guardalabene agreed to close the Monte Carlo Club in exchange for having the charges dropped.
